How to Send a Rakhi to the USA and Still Make It on Time
Express or standard, the two dates to remember for 2027, what to leave out of the parcel, and the one address detail that causes most delays.
The short answer
- Express (4 to 6 working days): order by Saturday, 7 August 2027.
- Standard (8 to 12 working days): order by Saturday, 31 July 2027.
- Write the ZIP code, apartment number and a phone number on the parcel.
- Pack rakhis and sealed chocolates. Leave homemade sweets at home.
Each season the same story comes up: the rakhi reached two days after the festival. Almost always the reason is one of two things: the order went in a few days too late, or the address was missing one small detail. Both are easy to fix.
How long it really takes
From Jaipur, express shipping to the USA usually takes 4 to 6 working days, and standard shipping 8 to 12. Add one day for packing. Working days do not include Sundays, and customs can add a day or two in busy weeks, which the first half of August always is.
We count back from the day before the festival, so the rakhi is in your brother's hands with a day to spare. For 2027 that gives two dates worth writing down:

The address detail that causes most delays
US addresses rarely fail because of the street name. They fail because the apartment or unit number is missing, or the ZIP code has a typo. Couriers cannot leave a parcel at a building with forty flats and no unit number. Before you order, check:
- Full name exactly as on the mailbox
- Street address with apartment, unit or suite number
- City, state and the five-digit ZIP code
- A US phone number, so the courier can call
What to put in the parcel, and what to leave out
Rakhis, roli-chawal in a small sealed packet, greeting cards and sealed chocolates are the safest combination. Homemade sweets, anything with fresh dairy, and loose dry fruit are the items most likely to be held back or delayed, so we suggest leaving them out and sending a gift card or a video call recipe instead.
A rakhi that arrives on time with a chocolate bar beats a box of laddoos that arrives a week late.
If you are already late
If express shipping can no longer make it, send the rakhi anyway and tie it on a video call when it arrives. Many families now do a two-part Raksha Bandhan: the call on the day, and the rakhi when the parcel comes. Our wish generator can help with the message for the day itself.

Sealed, commercially packed chocolates usually travel well. To be safe, leave out homemade mithai and anything made with fresh milk or ghee.
India celebrates on 17 August. Many US panchangs list 16 August because of the time difference, so plan for the rakhi to arrive by the 15th.
